Low light focus
I use this external flash unit with my Canon Rebel xTi. The flash does a great job calculating the amount of light it needs to release to expose the photo, making grossly over exposed or underexposed photos a thing of the past. The ability to bounce the flash off of medium height white ceilings gives you great looking photos to the point where I now prefer using my flash instead of relying on high ISOs, fast lenses and low aperature numbers. Although flash photography is a tricky subject, the casual shooter can leave this flash in automatic mode and get wonderfully exposed photos. However, in my opinion, the BEST PART of this external flash is that it enables you to focus MUCH faster than the built in flash and this is reason alone to pick up the Speedlite 430EX II. Previously, when shooting in low light settings, the camera/lens would struggle to focus and the flash would emit several highly annoying test flashes. Indoor miracles
I had been holding off on purchasing an external flash for my XTI for months, making up all sorts of excuses as to why I shouldn't own one. It's too big, I'll never use it, $200+ for a flash of light is obscene and on and on the excuses went. My wife surprised me by getting me one for my birthday and after using it for 6 months I couldn't be happier. How did I ever live without this thing?I take a lot of pictures indoors of my son. He's a 9 month old boy that's not quite ready to be outside all the time. I've got the 50mm 1.8 but it just isn't fast enough in the dim lighting of our home and the on camera flash is worthless. Ever since I got this flash I'd say that 80% of the pictures I take indoors and outdoors are taken with this flash. The Speedlite 430EX II flash is a solid unit. It contains most of the upgrades that its big brother received. A metal foot finally, with a twist-lock that holds it totally securely to the top of the camera, yet removes in less than a second when you want to take it off, are true values and make a excellent flash unit even better. Canon quality is demonstrated in every aspect.I actually purchased this unit as a slave to my 580EX II, but don't under estimate this unit. It is somewhat smaller than its bigger brother but is still a powerful flash to have in your bag. It can be used as a standalone flash or a slave to its bigger brother. The guide number for the 430ex is 43 and 58 for the 580EX units. That being said, in most shots, you will not know the difference. I have read all the reviews on this product before I bought. There have been very conflicting reviews on this product and I decided to put in my 2cent comment here to help sort out the confusion (I seldom write product reviews as it's very cumbersome and time consuming).I am a engineer and am also a good handy man. I always expect that a good product should not only function properly but should also feel good on your hand (touch inspection) and should have good quality appearance (uniformity/consistency under visual inspection). When viewing from different angles under light, a good material should reflect light uniformly (i.e. no warping, no defect, no inconsistency in material from one section to another).Followings are my comments for the Pixel FC-311 cable (3m/10ft long).(1) There seem to be two vendors for this product on amazon: Rainbow and Cowboy. Excellent value to price!
I purchased this Off-Camera shoe cord and was awaiting it with great expectations. I was told that my 430EX Speedlite (Canon camera) would need a master flash to be used off camera. I was not about to invest over $400 for the 580EX II, which is the master flash I would have needed. I figured I would give this a try. I am very happy that I did! I was also told by a sales representative at a highly reputable and well known professional camera store that I "must" use only those flash supplies with a Canon camera that Canon sells... nah... don't ever fall for that! This one works like a charm. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the 10' cord is quite tightly wound up in its coils and it is hard to extend it past 4-5 feet as a result. I will have to spend some time stretching the cord to make it lose enough to stretch with ease.

Great Deal (but)
I was really pleased to find this package. Your local camera shop is great and all but this would have cost a fortune at the camera shop I normally go to (I went in and did a price check on everything before ordering online).I won't be attaching the paperboard bounce that came in the package because I already own a Sto-Fen omni-bounce (from my old 580ex, RIP). I would suggest that anyone who is ordering this package order the omni-bounce as well.Edit: While I was shooting a wedding the flash stopped working right as I was about to take a picture of the groom adjusting the bride's father's tie. The camera locked up (ETTL changed to TTL and the flash wouldn't go off) and I missed the picture. flash worked again later but continued to lock up the camera at critical moments. Fast shipping and great packaging
I ordered this very late on a thursday night, chose standard shipping and received it on tuesday - so technically it arrived in 3 business days - great job!!The shipping box was damaged by ups, but the contents were in perfect shape - great packaging by cameta!!!The included defuser could be explained a little better, it is simply cardboard which uses velcro hook and loop fasteners but I bought an additional Sto-Fen OMEY Omni-Bounce Diffuser at the same time I ordered this kit so that didn't matter to me.This kit saved me over $250 (quoted price) by buying online instead of locally, which I normally try to keep my business local....but with this republican in office, money is very tight so I am looking for ways to save.Would definately by from cameta again.

I got this flash from amazon and I love it. The instruction manual is terrible so even after reading it twice cover to cover, I was still a bit confused about how to best use it. THAT being said, now that i know how to use it I want to buy a few more. I just received the flash a few days ago and so far it works as advertised. I have not done an extensive field test with it yet, but I will update if something noteworthy comes up.First impression: Build quality is wonderful (for the price). At first glance, it looks very similar to the 580EX II. However, upon closer inspection, I noticed subtle differences.-The zoom mechanism is significantly noisier.-The tilt/swivel head does not lock when releasing the side buttons. As a matter of fact, it does not even have a lock realease button under the rubber cover. Its just there to mimic the 580EX II.-It does not have weather sealing rubber to cover the hot-shoe.
